The 2011 (popularized by STI/Staccato) uses a modular frame design with a polymer grip module attached to a steel or aluminum frame insert. This allows for double-stack magazines with higher capacity (17-21 rounds) while maintaining 1911-style ergonomics and trigger feel. Traditional 1911s are single-stack (7-10 rounds) with an all-steel or aluminum frame.
